Physical and social activities in old age have a protective effect on the entorhinal cortex, as shown by recent research by Dr. Isabel Hotz, Pascal Frédéric Deschwanden, Dr. Susan Mérillat, and Prof. em. Dr. Lutz Jäncke (all URPP DynAge). This important area of the brain, which plays a central role in memory, is impaired in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, even in the early stages. These exciting findings are discussed in a recent UZH article that you can read here.
